WCI Thursday's BLAST January 8th, 2026

THOUGHTS

We are saddened by Governor Tim Walz’s decision to end his campaign for re-election. However, we understand his need to do what’s best for his family and for our state

Tim Walz Quotes:

“Resilience grows when we support each other through hard times.”

“Strength shows up when ordinary people do extraordinary things for each other.”

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.

I’m extremely upset that the Trump administration invaded Venezuela without Congressional approval. It’s dangerous and illegal. Congress needs to come back to DC immediately and pass a War Powers Resolution to stop him. I also want Congress to block funding for this war and publicly demand oversight and accountability for those who undertook it. Trump should be impeached and removed for it.

[If your GOP Congressmember’s office says this was about drugs add:] Really? Then may I know why Trump pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández? He was at the center of one of the largest and most violent drug-trafficking conspiracies in the world and was convicted of trafficking literally tons of cocaine into our country? Stop lying to the American people and vote to block this war now.

A WCI BLAST Survey will be emailed to you on January 13th. Please take a couple of minutes to fill it out. Your input is very valuable to us. Your answers will remain anonymous. Thank you!

AND MORE!!!

ICE in Wright County

Ice was in Buffalo on January 5th to raid a Mexican Restaurant at 700 Soo Lane.

According to sources: 15-20 ICE agents surrounded the building. Immigrants locked themselves inside the so no one was arrested as ICE did NOT have any warrant(s).

It is reported that ICE agents are staying at the Country Inn and Suites in Elk River and Albertville. Possible protest outside these hotels being considered.

From MPR: ICE is expanding the size of its force in Minnesota as it amps up its crackdown on immigrants and investigations into fraud. CBS News is reporting that as many as 2,000 agents and officers could be involved in the operation. The move could touch off a 30-day surge in operations in the Twin Cities. CBS is also reporting that U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commander Gregory Bovino, who has led similar immigration crack downs in other cities, is expected to arrive in the state soon to lead efforts here.

WCI is working with a Rapid Response Group and will notify you when we have more details.

On the 5th anniversary of Jan 6th, NPR launches a public archive of evidence

NPR has built the most comprehensive, evidence-first archive of Jan. 6, so you can view exactly what happened through the lenses of the people who were there: Rioters who filmed themselves, Capitol surveillance feeds, body-camera footage from cops who were assaulted, screenshots and video podcasts and charging documents. In total, a comprehensive accounting of the riot from evidence vetted in court.
