YOU ARE NOT ALONE

I’ve had a lot of brief discussions with people who feel isolated and sometimes unsure of themselves.
In my experience, the vast majority of Americans are decent people. But they can sometimes feel alone and confused.
Our job — yours and mine — is to reassure them that they’re not alone and they’re not crazy, that America has been taken over by a man and a regime that are spewing blatant lies, and those lies are being amplified on social media and occasionally on mainstream media.
Too many people don’t understand this. They feel as if they’re the only ones feeling disconnected and powerless. But they’re not powerless. In fact, if each of them votes in November, their votes will force a great change in America. Even greater in 2028.
I think it is also important to reassure each other that these terrible times will end. More Americans are seeing through the lies as well as the cruelty and corruption. They’re deciding they want this daymare to end, peacefully, and are committed to rebuilding and rectifying the nation.

I’m alarmed about what’s happening at Delaney Hall in New Jersey. Detainees are being kept in unspeakable conditions, ICE has been beating protestors outside with batons, teargassing them, and even shoving them into traffic, and Congress is doing nothing to stop it. Conditions at other detention centers are also awful. ICE and CBP need to be reined in immediately, and under no circumstances should they get more funding. The CEOs of GEO Group and Core Civic should be ordered to come to Capitol Hill and testify about conditions in their facilities, and the cruelty this administration is visiting upon immigrants needs to stop. It’s un-American, it’s economically catastrophic, and it’s morally wrong. Do something.
Also, I oppose the proposed $130 annual registration fee for EVs in the transportation bill. With Trump’s war jacking up gas prices we need to make electric vehicles more affordable, not less.

What we’ll be doing on the anniversary of the first
No Kings Day!
Trump will be marking his birthday once again with made-for-tv spectacle. This time, instead of emulating dictators with a military parade, he’ll be playing Roman emperor with a cage match for his amusement at the White House.
The Committee for the First Amendment, with enthusiastic support from the No Kings Coalition, will be counterprogramming his little stunt with a nationally livestreamed concert featuring prominent activists and musicians.
But ours won’t be mere spectacle. We’re inviting folks to host house parties around the country to build local power around anti-authoritarian defiance. Lots of Indivisible groups already have events planned, but you don’t need to be a group leader to invite a few friends over and use our organizing toolkit to plan local actions.
And for those who tune in on their own, we’ll be offering calls to action around voting, election protection, and defense of our First Amendment rights.

The Wright County jail is making space to hold 120 folks who have been incarcerated at the Sherburne County Jail. Because Sherburne is boarding detainees for ICE, they need more room. So, they are sending their non-ICE related arrests to WC because they make more money off of ICE detainees. Botton line: Wright County is making money off of ICE detainees as well because we are boarding for Sherburne County.

Otsego Weekend of Action w/ Leah, Joey, and Keenan!
June 7 (Sunday) at 10 am OR 2 pm at Prairie Park in Otsego
Come join the SD30 DFL for a day of door knocking! Our hope is to have the largest doorknock in the history of the district, and if we get 100 people signed up to knock we'll be able to knock the entire cities of Otsego, St. Michael, and Elk River in one day! We're already almost half way to that goal. Can you join us?
We'll be knocking doors across Otsego on Sunday, June 7th to help get the word out about our three local DFL-endorsed candidates, Joey Smyth (HD 30A), Keenan Gentry (HD 30B), and Leah Temple (SD 30). These conversations are crucial as we start to build capacity for our BLUE WAVE this November!
A brief (~20 min) training is provided and new canvassers will always be paired with someone more experienced, so don't fear if you've never knocked doors before! We also have water, sunscreen, and snacks on hand. Door knocking is typically a 1.5-2 hour commitment.
It may seem silly, but studies have shown that knocking on doors and meeting voters directly is one of the most effective ways to ensure that people stay engaged in their communities and vote in elections. We hope to see you there!

FUN FACT ABOUT OUR AMERICAN FLAG:
In the 1950s, when it seemed certain that Alaska would be admitted to the Union, designers began retooling the American flag to add a 49th star to the existing 48. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Ohio student named Bob Heft borrowed his mother’s sewing machine, disassembled his family’s 48-star flag and stitched on 50 stars in a proportional pattern. He handed in his creation to his history teacher for a class project, explaining that he expected Hawaii would soon achieve statehood as well. Heft also sent the flag to his congressman, Walter Moeller, who presented it to President Eisenhower after both new states joined the Union. Eisenhower selected Heft’s design, and on July 4, 1960, the president and the high school student stood together as the 50-star flag was raised for the first time. Heft’s teacher promptly changed his grade from a B- to an A.

I-94 Billboard Update - 164,000 vehicles a day!
We rent the billboard jointly with Indivisible North Metro and Indivisible Twin Cities. We've been using it to hold Tom Emmer accountable — rotating messages to match whatever atrocity the week brings — and to promote events like No Kings rallies. Some of our recent messages are shown below.
Here's the challenge: We need to raise money to keep it running through the midterms. And the cost just jumped from $1,200 to $2,000 for four weeks, now that we're in "election season."
