Recently, former President Obama praised the people of Minnesota for organizing support, building community, standing up for their neighbors, and exercising their right to free speech in response to the controversial federal immigration enforcement operation and related shootings by ICE agents. He called their sustained, peaceful actions “heroic” and a reminder of core American values. He also noted that, “As long as we have folks doing that, I feel like we’re going to get through this.”
Yes, we are going to get through this! Our freedom depends on the public standing up to the mad dictator! Thom Hartmann asserts that we must:
-
Regularly call our elected officials and demand that they require legal rulings be followed, particularly if they’re Republicans and such a position may be politically costly to them; and
-
We must participate in the civic pressure between elections that keeps the constitutional machinery honest, because voting alone can’t overcome a regime that’s learned it can disregard the referee whenever it wants.
We will prevail!

Minnesota Policy Battles Begin During the First Week
|
|
|
|
|
-
Housing and renters’ aid proposals stalled: In the first week, two DFL-backed housing measures—including a plan to provide about $50 million in rental assistance—were blocked by tied votes in a House committee, slowing initial progress on housing affordability efforts.
-
Immigration-related legislation on the agenda:
-
Democratic lawmakers introduced bills aimed at limiting federal immigration enforcement activity within Minnesota — including accountability for federal officers and protections for residents in places like schools and hospitals.
-
Republicans are pushing contrasting immigration proposals, focusing on oversight and cooperation with federal authorities after a surge of federal agents in the state.
-
A bill to create an independent Office of Inspector General, which had previously passed the Senate, faced procedural challenges in the Minnesota House, showing early partisan disagreements over oversight reforms.
-
Senate Republicans also unveiled a plan aimed at combating fraud in state human services programs, emphasizing stricter oversight and accountability.

CONTACT YOUR SENATORS
Amy Klobuchar: (202) 224-3244 klobuchar.senate.gov
Tina Smith (202) 224-5641 smith.senate.gov
First, I want to thank the Senator for voting no on Republican-introduced voter suppression bills, such as the SAVE Act, the MEGA Act, or the SAVE America Act. Thank you also for your vocal opposition to H.J. Res 140 and for protecting our Boundary Waters.
Next, we want the money we paid in illegal tariffs to be returned—not just to individual consumers, but to the many small businesses who have been harmed by Trump’s disastrous policy. I know there’s a bill to do this in the works in the House, is there anything coming in the Senate? If not, why? Where will that money go? We know that 90% of the tariffs were paid by consumers. We want it back.
Third, we have learned of yet another American citizen being murdered by ICE. It’s outrageous! ICE is a murderous agency that is completely out of control. They need to be abolished and replaced, but until then I expect Congress to codify all of the demands on Democrats’ list, and that’s at the bare minimum. I support Democrats in voting down any new DHS funding until that happens.
Finally, we do NOT want war with Iran. Trump is an unfit maniac who’s trying to distract us from his Epstein ties and failures on the economy. Stop him. Pass an Iran war powers resolution immediately.

First, I understand that Reps Bynum and Horsford have introduced a bill called the Restoring Economic Lifelines for Independent Enterprises and Family Businesses (RELIEF) Act. This legislation would require CBP to refund tariffs and customs duties collected illegally by the Trump administration under the IEEPA. Large corporations may be able to get their money back through years of litigation, but small and independent businesses lack the resources to do so. They need this money the most of all. Will the Congressmember co-sponsor this bill?
Second, Kash Patel is an embarrassment and a disgrace. The fact that he was getting drunk with the Olympic hockey team on our dime when he was technically on duty is intolerable. He’s also covering up sex crimes and pedophilia. He needs to go.
Third, we do NOT want war with Iran. Trump is an unfit maniac who’s trying to distract us from his Epstein ties and failures on the economy. Stop him. Pass an Iran war powers resolution immediately. Thanks.

WCI MONTHLY MEETING
MARCH 9TH via ZOOM
TOPIC: The Affordability Crisis and Health Care.
Is the rising cost of health care, premiums, co-pays, and deductibles contributing to the overall affordability crisis in America?
It most definitely is.
Come learn about the impacts of recently passed federal legislation on the entire healthcare system.
Rose Roach is the Chair of Health Care for All MN and the National Coordinator of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer.
Join us March 9th as Ms. Roach walks us through the failures of privatizing public health programs and corporatizing our healthcare system and lays out the solution for guaranteed affordable healthcare for all.
And yes, it really is possible.
