In this trying time, when it feels like we are witnessing the end of democracy in our country, we would be wise to remember the words of Jesuit Tom Weston: “We do what is possible, what is practical, simple and kind.”
What is possible and practical is a massive voter turnout in November. Fair Fight’s Lauren Groh-Wargo provides us with a note of optimism: “We must leverage this attempt at massive voter suppression to drive the most robust, organized, and empowered mobilization effort in modern history this fall and fight attempts to steal or undermine the count and the results. Leaders in the South are already gearing up to do that. Allies everywhere must support this effort — and themselves turn out in record numbers. From Birmingham to Selma to Minneapolis, overreach has historically prompted voter backlash, and we must channel that here.”
Why are conservatives so afraid of democracy? Why are they afraid to let the voters decide elections?
We know why.
Now, we must do what is possible to return our country to one that is once again respected in the world.

First, please ask the Senator to oppose the nomination of Stephen Miran for the Federal Reserve Board. Allowing a White House advisor to serve on the board will disrupt its independence and put the stability of our already shaky economy at greater risk.
Also, I’m furious to hear that Senate Democrats are considering caving to Republicans on the government spending package. I’m hearing they are thinking of allowing Trump some rescissions and that they’re not demanding a reversal of tax cuts for the richest Americans—even though Americans support these asks. In short, they’re not using their leverage to fight for popular policies. I can’t begin to express my frustration with this. Democrats wonder why they’re not popular? THIS is why. They should be saying NO to any rescissions. They should demand a permanent extension of the ACA tax credits, a reversal of all Medicaid cuts, and a reversal of tax cuts for billionaires. Otherwise they should vote no.

On April 27, you told Fox 9’s Courtney King that “the most important lesson” of the Correspondents’ Dinner attack was that “we all have to do a better job of watching the rhetoric that drives these sort of things.” On May 4 — seven days later — you told Fox News Live’s Kevin Corke that the Governor of Minnesota, the Attorney General, and Rep. Ilhan Omar “should all go to jail.” Do you draw any distinction between the rhetoric you called for after the Correspondents’ Dinner and the rhetoric on Fox News Live?

The Wright County jail is making space to hold 120 folks who have been incarcerated at the Sherburne County Jail. Because Sherburne is boarding detainees for ICE, they need more room. So, they are sending their non-ICE related arrests to WC because they make more money off of ICE detainees. Botton line: Wright County is making money off of ICE detainees as well because we are boarding for Sherburne County.

JUNE EVENTS
Otsego Weekend of Action w/ Leah, Joey, and Keenan!
June 7 (Sunday) at 10 am OR 2 pm at Prairie Park in Otsego
Come join the SD30 DFL for a day of door knocking! Our hope is to have the largest doorknock in the history of the district, and if we get 100 people signed up to knock we'll be able to knock the entire cities of Otsego, St. Michael, and Elk River in one day! We're already almost half way to that goal. Can you join us?
We'll be knocking doors across Otsego on Sunday, June 7th to help get the word out about our three local DFL-endorsed candidates, Joey Smyth (HD 30A), Keenan Gentry (HD 30B), and Leah Temple (SD 30). These conversations are crucial as we start to build capacity for our BLUE WAVE this November!
A brief (~20 min) training is provided and new canvassers will always be paired with someone more experienced, so don't fear if you've never knocked doors before! We also have water, sunscreen, and snacks on hand. Door knocking is typically a 1.5-2 hour commitment.
It may seem silly, but studies have shown that knocking on doors and meeting voters directly is one of the most effective ways to ensure that people stay engaged in their communities and vote in elections. We hope to see you there!

I-94 Billboard Update - 164,000 vehicles a day!
We rent the billboard jointly with Indivisible North Metro and Indivisible Twin Cities. We've been using it to hold Tom Emmer accountable — rotating messages to match whatever atrocity the week brings — and to promote events like No Kings rallies. Some of our recent messages are shown below.
Here's the challenge: We need to raise money to keep it running through the midterms. And the cost just jumped from $1,200 to $2,000 for four weeks, now that we're in "election season."

On April 25, over 86% of the delegates voted to endorse Doug Chapin to be our candidate to challenge Congressman Tom Emmer. Doug is a nationally recognized expert in democracy and election policy with nearly 40 years of experience dedicated to public service. His career spans the halls of Congress, where he served as elections counsel on the U.S. Senate Rules Committee, to the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs, where he founded the nation’s first online program for election administration. He has spent decades working in the private sector and with non-partisan organizations to make our elections more secure, accessible, and transparent.
