Here is what you can do instead:
First, mentally prepare yourself before the family gathering.
Second, don’t try to change the subject.
Third, disagree, but do it with a smile on your face and respect in your heart.
Fourth, try to work an issue you do agree on into the conversation.
Fifth, pivot to a different topic when you are on a high note.

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______. First, I understand that Senator Warren has introduced a bicameral bill called The Stop Ballroom Bribery Act (S. 3191). It would restrict donations for certain public projects linked to the President or Vice President, particularly from entities involved in litigation or seeking contracts with the federal government. We all know Trump’s ballroom project is allowing companies he’s doing business with to funnel money his way. It’s corrupt and unacceptable. I’d like the Senator to co-sponsor this bill.
Also, Congress must release the footage of the boat bombing on September Americans deserve to decide for themselves whether those two shipwrecked sailors actually posed a threat. If what Hegseth did was legal he should have no fear of releasing the film. Please insist that he do so. Thanks.

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
First, I understand that Rep. Garcia has introduced a bicameral bill called The Stop Ballroom Bribery Act (H.R. 6085). It would restrict donations for certain public projects linked to the President or Vice President, particularly from entities involved in litigation or seeking contracts with the federal government. We all know Trump’s ballroom project is allowing companies he’s doing business with to funnel money his way. It’s corrupt and unacceptable. I’d like the Congressmember to co-sponsor this bill.
Also, Congress needs to release the footage of the boat bombing on September 2. Americans deserve to decide for themselves whether those two shipwrecked sailors actually posed a threat. If what Hegseth did was legal he should have no fear of releasing the film. Please insist that he do so. Thanks.

DONATIONS TO WCI NEEDED
Wright County Indivisible is proud to support many events that promote democracy and thwart autocracy. As the Trump regime ramps up its attacks on our democracy, we need to use every tool we have to fight back—including mass demonstrations, economic tactics, mutual aid, grassroots pressure campaigns, and more. Indivisible was made for this kind of organizing, but we can’t do it without you. Please donate whenever and whatever you can through our Act Blue link. We appreciate you!
